Sol Tapas, Darlington

A couple of weeks ago, we booked a table at a lovely little tapas restaurant in nearby Darlington.

Located on Duke Street, with on-street parking outside, it's just fifteen minutes away from us and perfect for a night out with friends, date night, or an impromptu get together.

We were meeting some friends for dinner, and as usual it was busy! Seated in the back room, which I'd never been in before, there was a lovely hubbub. Plenty of chatter and buzz, but not so loud that you couldn't hear what others on your table were saying.

I had a large and very lovely glass of Tempranillo, which was at just the right temperature. There is nothing worse than cold red wine, and all too often this is exactly you end up with.

We were so excited by all of the delicious sounding dishes on the menu that it took us an age to actually put our order together - all I knew was that I had to have garlic mushrooms! But eventually we ordered and I enjoyed another glass of wine as we waited, chattering amongst ourselves and appreciating the wonderful decor and buzzing atmosphere.

One of my favourite things about Sol Tapas, is that your food comes out in waves as it is ready - so your food is always totally fresh straight from the kitchen and you can be getting stuck in to the delicious treats that arrive first, while you wait for the rest to come.

The food was exceptional! We had cheese stuffed jalapenos, garlic mushrooms, croquettes, tortilla, houmous and homemade flatbread, patatas bravas, olives, paella... The list goes on! In truth, we ordered far, far too much food but there were just too many delicious things to choose from!

The waitress was lovely, helpful, and an expert at Tetris judging by how well she slotted all of those dishes onto the table. She also made sure we were well stocked with drinks - more of that lovely Tempranillo!

By the end of it, none of us could move. We couldn't even face the thought of the dessert menu, which is a shame as I love a good dessert - but just means that I'll have to go back soon!

We weren't rushed out of the door; the team left us to undo our trouser buttons and enjoy our drinks, feeling relaxed and just enjoying ourselves, but they were immediately on hand in the background if we needed anything.

Overall - a fantastic meal that I really enjoyed, as did Mr W and our friends. I really love this little spot and always recommend it to people, and if you've not been before then you absolutely must go! I'm already looking through my diary to see when I can make Mr W book us a table there again...
